Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information monkeytyping.online (monkeytyping.online, "we", "us") collects when you use the website, how it is used, and the choices you have. The site owner reviews it and updates it whenever plugins, analytics or advertising are added or changed.

Taking a test without an account

The text you type during a test is processed in your browser to calculate your score and to power the replay. Without an account, it is not sent to our server.

When a test ends, your browser may send us an anonymous score record: the test, its settings, your speed, accuracy and error counts, and the result. It contains no typed text, no name, no email and no identifier of your device. We use these records to show how a score compares with other attempts and to improve the tests.

Information stored in your browser

To show your recent attempts and remember your settings, the tool saves a small amount of data in your browser's local storage on your own device: the test, passage identifiers, date, duration, speed, accuracy and result, plus your preferences. The most recent full report is also kept on your device so it can be added to your account if you sign up or sign in. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.

Member accounts

If you create a free account, we collect and store:

  • Account details: your username, email address and password. Passwords are stored only as a secure one-way hash; we cannot read them.
  • Profile details you choose to add: display name, profile picture, headline, the test you are preparing for, your goal speed and a short description.
  • Your test results, including the text you typed and the timing of your keystrokes, so we can show you the full report, the replay and your progress. The source text you typed from is stored with it.
  • An activity log of account events: sign-up, email confirmation, sign-ins and failed sign-in attempts, tests taken, reports opened and profile changes, with the date and an anonymized version of your IP address (the last part removed). We use it for security and to understand how the site is used.

We use this information to run your account, show your dashboard and reports, rank your best results on the public leaderboard (unless you opt out), keep the service secure, prevent abuse, answer your messages, and improve the tests. Site administrators can see account details and results to provide support, moderate accounts (for example to grant a verified badge or suspend an account that breaks our terms) and to understand usage. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use your typed text for advertising.

Public leaderboard

Members are listed on our public leaderboard by default. The leaderboard shows your display name, username, profile picture, verified badge, and the net speed, accuracy, test, length and date of your best eligible results. It never shows your email address, your typed text or your other results. You can remove yourself at any time by unticking “Show me on the public leaderboard” in your profile; your entries disappear from the leaderboard immediately. Administrators can also hide members or remove results.

Because the leaderboard is public, choose a display name and username you are comfortable sharing, and do not use your full legal name if you prefer not to be identified. Information that has been public may have been seen or copied by others before you hid it.

Emails

We send account emails from monkeytyping.online, through our own mail server or email delivery provider: a link to confirm your email address, links to reset your password or confirm a new address, and messages you request. We do not send marketing emails unless you separately agree to receive them.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep account data while your account exists. You can download everything we store about you from Settings in your dashboard, and you can delete your account there at any time; this permanently deletes your profile, profile picture, results and activity log. Anonymous score records contain no personal information and may be kept for statistics. Server backups are overwritten on a regular cycle.

Information you send us

If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to include, such as your name, email address and message, and use it only to reply.

Server logs and security

Like most websites, our hosting provider may record standard request information such as IP address, browser type and pages requested, for security and reliability. The site uses encryption in transit (HTTPS) and limits repeated sign-in and sign-up attempts to protect accounts.

Advertising

This site may display advertising served by Google AdSense or other advertising partners. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.

If analytics tools are enabled, they collect aggregated information about how visitors use the site, such as pages viewed and approximate location. The site owner will list any analytics provider used here.

Cookies

Our Cookie Policy explains the cookies and similar technologies that may be used and how to control them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including under U.S. state privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act and under the GDPR in the EEA and UK, you may have rights to access, correct, download or delete your personal information and to object to or restrict certain processing. Members can exercise most of these rights directly from their dashboard. For anything else, contact us and we will respond within the time the law requires.

Children

This site is intended for job seekers and is not directed to children under 13. Accounts are for people aged 16 or over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children; if you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy. The current version is always on this page, and we will tell members about significant changes by email or on their dashboard.
